A grandmother made an incredible transformation dropping a whopping nine stone after her embarrassment at Disneyland.
Sharon Spruce, 48, dropped eight dress sizes since her holiday to Disneyland where she was too big to fit inside some of the rides and suffered aches and pains from walking.
The gran, from Widnes, Cheshire, weighed more than 20st during the theme park getaway in 2018 which sparked her remarkable weight loss journey.
She has since lost a whopping nine stone after seeing herself in photographs seemed to be the final push towards her transformation.
Sharon said: “I was on my dream holiday but my weight was the one thing that was holding me back.
“I was hot, tired, in pain, and to top it off I couldn’t fit into some of the rides and rollercoasters.
“I had a photo taken on Main Street with Tinker Bell, and I was so sad when I saw it.
“I just knew it was now or never so I made a promise to myself there and then that I would do something about it – and I did.”
Determined to achieve her goals, Sharon began eating more sensibly after arriving home from Disneyland and lost an initial three stone.
She said: “I had yo-yo dieted all my life and in the past I have lost weight but would always quickly gain it all back and more.
“The changes started there and then, and I knew what I wanted and I was determined.
“A few months after getting back from Disney, I began to eat more sensibly and lost around three stone.”
Sharon was pleased with the results but felt she had not changed her habits.
In February 2019, she decided to join Slimming World and continued to shed the pounds.
She said: “I was pleased, but I knew that I had a long way to go and that I hadn’t really changed my habits.
“I wanted to understand my relationship with food better and I knew that if I was going to be successful for life and get to a target healthy weight, then I would need some expert support.”
Sharon lost weight gradually, dropping one or two pounds most weeks while other weeks her weight would remain the same.
She said: “I learnt that this was OK and that it was all a part of a long learning process.”
The determined gran carried on and began to notice the benefits of her weight loss to both her health and her confidence.
She said: “As the weight dropped my joints started to ache less.
“I became more confident and plucked up the courage to start taking some ‘Body Magic’ exercise.
“I started slowly and then eventually joined a local fitness group.”
With the arrival of the UK’s first lockdown, Sharon faced new challenges and turned to comfort eating.
But this time she made a promise to herself that the one thing she could control was her diet and looking after her body.
Her Slimming World support group continued on Zoom and she finally reached her target at the beginning of May.
Sharon said: “I have dropped dress sizes, from a 28 to a 12, and lost around nine stone in total, but it’s the other benefits that mean the most.
“I became a grandma in January and my new body and energy levels allow me to keep up and play with him all day.
“I was meant to be heading back to Disney this year, but it will have to be rescheduled.
“But one thing is for sure, this time I will have no regrets.”
